About The Position

The Associate Mechanical Design Engineer is an engineering position within ABB Distribution Solutions, contributing to the design of ANSI Air Insulated Switchgear and related electrical distribution equipment. The role supports low-complexity orders and special designs, using 3D modeling and CAD tools to develop engineering solutions and make professional design decisions. The position is based onsite in Mebane, North Carolina, and reports to the Engineering Supervisor. The role develops and releases mechanical Bills of Materials (BOMs), creates 3D models and drawings for special designs, and produces part numbers and drawings for customer doors and panels. It also uses 3D modeling to create designs, drawings, and calculations to contractual specifications; manages and publishes designs in the PLM system; and creates or reviews engineering documentation needed for manufacturing, fabrication, or construction.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Zero or more years of experience in Customer Application Engineering or Engineering Design.
Proficiency with a recent version of AutoCAD or an equivalent computer-aided design platform.
Familiarity and practical experience with applicable software, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, SAP, and Windchill.
Experience with 3D design, including Creo, SolidWorks, or an equivalent design platform.
Must already have authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

Computer Aided Design certification or degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop mechanical Bills of Materials (BOMs) for assigned projects.
Release mechanical BOMs to the ERP system for assigned orders.
Create 3D models and drawings for new requisition special designs using Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent platforms.
Create part numbers and drawings for customers’ doors and panels.
Use 3D modeling to develop engineering solutions, including drawings and calculations according to contractual specifications.
Manage the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system and publish new designs.
Create or review engineering drawings, specifications, and plans required by manufacturing, fabrication, or construction.
