The Associate Engineer role will make an impact by assisting in designing, developing, and supporting production equipment controls/automation systems, including programming languages and software tools (e.g., ladder logic). This role involves supporting immediate and long-term improvements to production equipment controls/automation systems and instrumentation, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. The Associate Engineer will provide support in the programming and development of machine controls, control systems, and data collection systems, working closely with Engineering and Production Departments to support all production equipment automation systems that involve Controls, IPCs, PLCs, HMIs, and associated software. Key responsibilities also include providing troubleshooting support for existing production equipment control systems for the Instrumentation and Controls Group, participating in planning for future system growth, and researching new applications or technology. The individual will work with engineering in the planning stage for production-related equipment, and be responsible for life cycle management, production line efficiency, line up-time, and best-of-breed practices. The role requires preparing project specifications, drawings, schedules, budgets, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and validation protocols for production automation equipment under the direction of senior Controls/Automation staff. The Associate Engineer will manage and/or support assigned projects to meet target dates and complete projects within capital projections, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, and documenting all programming and wiring modifications per SOP. Collaboration with suppliers and contractors is also expected to ensure alignment with project goals and safety standards. Finally, the Associate Engineer will act as a resource to assist other instrument and controls engineers and maintenance, potentially including training or mentoring technician team members, and will contribute to continuous improvement efforts by proposing enhancements to control systems and processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 2-4 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of the following engineering disciplines: programming, instrumentation, hardware, PLCs, IPC, software.
  • Ability to manage project execution activities to completion including; design coordination, scheduling, tracking, reporting, commissioning/validation, and ongoing maintenance requirements.
  • Computer skills including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other Viatris departments and demonstrate the ability to resolve conflicts and solve problems dynamically.
