About The Position

ABB is hiring an Associate Electrical Designer in its Electrification Distribution Solutions business in Mebane, North Carolina. Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, this onsite role creates electrical connection diagrams for ANSI air-insulated switchgear, using advanced and innovative techniques as needed. The designer also contributes to operational improvements and customer satisfaction. The role involves engineering-to-order projects, including assigning wire terminal points, reviewing electrical schematics, customizing electrical device layouts, and creating 2D drawings for wire harnesses and instrument door and barrier punching. Designs must meet company, industry, and customer requirements. The designer addresses manufacturing questions, collaborates with project engineers and managers, documents wiring standards, and contributes feedback on engineering tools and systems. Requirements

Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or a related field and 4 or more years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field and 2 or more years of relevant experience.
At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing, customer application engineering, or electrical design.
Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, with knowledge of power systems and protection-related matters.
Experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically with control wiring.
Experience with electrical distribution equipment.
Proficiency with a recent version of AutoCAD or an equivalent computer-aided design platform.
Work authorization to legally work for ABB in the United States.

Nice To Haves

Computer-aided design certification or degree preferred.
Practical familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, SAP, Windchill, and other applicable software.

Responsibilities

Use engineering tools to create connection diagrams and assign wire terminal points for engineered-to-order projects.
Review electrical schematic accuracy and work with project engineers to develop electrical connections for project-specific applications.
Customize electrical device layouts and create 2D drawings for wire harnesses and instrument door and barrier punching.
Ensure designs meet company, industry, and customer technical standards and requirements, including NEC, ANSI, IEEE, and customer project specifications.
Address manufacturing concerns and questions related to electrical wiring.
Provide feedback and solutions to project managers and project engineers to meet customer needs.
Create and document standards for assigning terminal points and wiring rules.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Provide feedback to improve and maintain engineering tools and systems, including symbol libraries, guidelines, reference documents, and system usability.
