About The Position

Cooley is seeking an Associate Director of Insights & Optimization to join the Marketing and Client Development team. This role involves defining the firm's measurement framework, leading the development of a self-service data dashboard ecosystem, and strategizing audience segmentation. The position requires translating complex analytical findings into strategic narratives, leading a team of analysts, and ensuring cross-functional alignment on data-backed frameworks. The Associate Director will also architect an optimization model for resource allocation and campaign efficacy, oversee data stewardship and ethics, and integrate MarTech roadmaps with BI tools. Impact reporting and people leadership are key components, including mentoring direct reports, managing performance, and supporting professional development.

Requirements

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as needed
  • Ability to travel, as needed
  • 8+ years of applicable experience in the field (e.g., marketing or business development, preferably with an emphasis working in a strategy, transformation, or growth function)
  • 4 + years management experience (some at the senior level preferred)
  • Hands-on experience in audience segmentation strategy and creation, including advanced reporting, querying, and cross-filter logic in CRM, MAP, and orchestration technologies
  • Basic to advanced data manipulation, analysis and visualization skills (e.g. advanced Excel skills, SQL, PowerBI)
  • Ability to deliver business-focused insights and data storytelling to xFunctional stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Define the firm’s overarching measurement framework, establishing high-value KPIs that link Marketing & Client Development activities to firm-wide growth and practice revenue.
  • Lead the vision and architectural build of a democratized dashboard ecosystem, ensuring that self-service data tools are intuitive, accessible, and designed to empower MCD stakeholders with real-time, actionable insights.
  • Lead the strategy for audience segmentation and lifecycle modeling, ensuring the firm has a unified, governed approach to how we define and target clients.
  • Act as the primary "MCD Data SME" for leadership, translating complex analytical findings into clear, high-impact narratives that inform strategic pivots.
  • Direct a team of analysts and oversee the offshore delivery model, ensuring high-velocity reporting output without sacrificing strategic depth.
  • Partner across teams to align their specific goals with the firm’s central data-backed frameworks.
  • Architect the "Optimization Guidance" model, establishing the process by which the MCD uses performance data to reallocate spend and resources or report out on campaign efficacy.
  • Oversee the integrity of the MCD data ecosystem, ensuring compliance with firm-wide standards while maximizing the utility of data.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in the evolution of the firm’s data lake and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI , CRM analytics), ensuring the stack supports advanced attribution.
  • Own the delivery of " en masse" and bespoke reporting, demonstrating the holistic impact of the MCD organization on the firm's market position and pipeline.
  • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies.
  • Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
  • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
  • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and central HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
