About The Position

The Associate Director of Housing and Operations supports the mission of the University by managing the University's housing operations program under the leadership of the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life and in collaboration with other professional staff. The position manages housing operations for Wittenberg's fully residential campus. Professional staff members and student leaders work together to cultivate safe and inclusive living communities. This is a twelve-month, exempt-level position that includes evening and weekend responsibilities.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in college student affairs, higher education administration, or other related area is required.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience with housing and residence life operations is required.
  • Competency and experience with Microsoft Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint is necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to navigate through university facilities including but not limited to stairs, elevators, areas without air conditioning, uneven surfaces, and across campus terrain.
  • Ability to transport items and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds (with assistance).
  • Ability to utilize computer, office phone, cell phone, and tablet as needed.
  • This position requires ability to work with a variety of constituents, solve problems quickly and professionally, anticipate needs, and communicate proactively.
  • An understanding of how to prioritize competing demands and timelines is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures.
  • If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with property management, landlord tenant laws, group housing in a higher education environment are preferred.
  • Familiarity with Adirondack, CBORD, Datatel Ellucian Colleague, and JotForm is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate campus housing operations program for 1,500 beds located in traditional residence halls (six) and over 100 student rental properties, including 2 apartment buildings.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of campus housing assignment processes and occupancy management functions, including, but not limited to, housing selection, first-year housing assignments, room changes, and damage billing.
  • Prepare and maintain occupancy records and procedures pertaining to campus housing, including but not limited to designations, rates, maintenance records, occupancy reports, requests and approvals, changes, etc.
  • Ensure meal plan and housing software, related databases, and other means of maintaining accurate student and facility records are up to date and accurate.
  • Collaborate with conferencing services staff to manage office housing processes, including, but not limited to, move-in/move-out, early arrivals, and break, transition, and summer housing.
  • Collaborate with Facilities and Housekeeping to manage residential building repairs and custodial needs.
  • Communicate relevant information with other campus offices such as Facilities, Housekeeping, Scheduling & Events, Police, Conduct, Student Accounts, and approved contractors and vendors.
  • Complete monthly walk-throughs of residential spaces with Residential Life Area Coordinators (ACs).
  • Assist with the coordination and support of housing operations during campus emergencies.
  • Serve as a member of the Residential Life team; develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with conferencing services staff, ACs, resident advisors, and other staff.
  • Collaborate with Campus Safety to develop and implement health, safety, and emergency response materials and training opportunities for students, Community Advisors, Resident Advisors and professional staff members.
  • Partner with the Office of Student Accessibility Services to identify housing assignments for students with approved ADA housing accommodations and/or Emotional Support Animals (ESAs); ensure students with approved ESAs are aware of and follow ESA policies.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate housing needs for New Student Move-In, Commencement, and Summer Conferences.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, laws, and ordinances related to campus housing.
  • Participate in the professional, on-call duty rotation for the Division of Student Development, providing 24-hour crisis intervention, on-site emergency response, and support to other campus partners.
  • Assist in the implementation and enforcement of college policies and expectations.
  • Assist in development and interpretation of policies and procedures relating to campus housing.
  • Develop and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with student development colleagues, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Continuously identify and address the developmental needs of students through educational interactions, crisis response protocols, and mediations; advise and provide general support to students.
  • Ensure excellent customer service for students, families, alumni, and campus guests.
  • Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as needed.
