About The Position

The office of Campus Ministry is integral to the mission and charism of St. Agnes Academy. The Associate Director of Campus Ministry is responsible for nurturing spirituality and creating ongoing opportunities for faith development of students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumnae. Associate Director of Campus Ministry oversees all activities within the office of Campus Ministry, working with the Director of Campus Ministry and the Coordinator of Campus Ministry to engage the St. Agnes community spiritually and provide ministry of presence. Faith, Community, and Dominican Charism Ensure that the four pillars of a Dominican education (prayer, study, community, preaching) are developed and promoted among the school community. Develop an active faith community and model Christian values. Support prayer and spiritual formation within the student, faculty/staff, and parent communities. Uphold and implement the Dominican charism and the Houston Dominican Sisters’ congregational goals. Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion by honoring the dignity of each member of the St. Agnes Academy community.

Requirements

  • Commitment to embracing the mission of St. Agnes Academy
  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing
  • BA in Theology or Pastoral Studies, MA is preferred with five years’ experience
  • Demonstrated competency in multicultural, ecumenical, and interfaith issues
  • An ability to continue and advance the ecumenical and inter-religious understanding among students, faculty, and staff on campus, and support all students in their own unique faith formation.
  • An understanding of the spiritual/religious development stages for contemporary teenagers/young adults and the capacity to implement programs to meet these spiritual developmental aspirations
  • Proficiency in ProPresenter, video editing, Canva, and other ministry-related technologies required
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple, and occasionally simultaneous, deadlines and projects
  • Excellent accuracy in completing project work
  • Excellent judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy
  • Highly organized and reliable with demonstrated success working in quick-paced, dynamic environment with many responsibilities, ability to act efficiently on last-minute projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Completion of Human Sexuality training
  • Passion for a Catholic, all-girl’s educational environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the retreat programs for students and Dominican Preaching Team (estimate 8 programs per school year)
  • Leading the Dominican Preaching Team (peer ministry) and other leadership opportunities in campus ministry
  • Design and facilitate ongoing faith development opportunities throughout the year, focusing especially on discipleship and sustainable faith among all students, from the first moments of 9th grade, through their experience at St. Agnes
  • Oversee the Servant Leadership Program including recruiting advisors, tracking hours and building and maintaining relationships with the service sites
  • Oversee the faith-based clubs on campus, including Campus Ministry Club. Ensure activities promoted by these clubs are aligned with the mission and charism
  • Attend and take a leadership role in facilitating all retreats, and assists in ensuring a smooth, powerful experience and connecting ongoing programming to these experiences. This includes developing and supporting student peer ministers who are responsible for designing and facilitating retreats.
  • Participate in certain conferences and mission trips necessary for the development of student leaders and success of the overall faith formation program.
  • Students complete 100 hours of service between Junior and Senior years. This service is commissioned, completed, and recorded through the Office of Campus Ministry, under the leadership of the Associate Director of Campus Ministry.
  • Assist the department in facilitating and coordination of All-School Masses (approximately 8 per year), as needed.
  • Attend all Daily Masses.
  • Ensure that there is a student leader for each day’s prayer and provides the prayer for the student (or works with students to write/provide prayers). Prayers should reflect the Liturgical year or relate to other pertinent signs of the times.
  • Work together to ensure that the Chapel remains a prayerful environment.
  • Serve as an advocate and a person whom students can turn to in times of need. The Associate Director is a pastoral minister, first and foremost.
  • Teach three classes.
  • Maintain excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, creating lists, keeping track of programming details and logistics throughout the year.
  • Collect and organize paperwork, payments, permission slips, for all retreats and Campus Ministry programming
  • Coordinating supplies, providing meals/snacks/hospitality for Campus Ministry events including retreats, meetings, liturgies as needed
  • Plan and calendar events and programming, working with the Director of Campus Ministry
  • Returning phone calls and emails pertaining to the Coordinator of Campus Ministry as well as the Department of Campus Ministry
  • Keep current on trends and developments in teenager development and spirituality
  • Attend conferences that pertain to ministry and participate in Archdiocesan workshops that relate to the field
  • Seek out “best practices” in the Houston area and nationally
