About The Position

Zeta is seeking an Associate Director or Director of High School History to make a significant impact on students' academic achievement and social-emotional development. The organization is dedicated to providing world-class education and fostering a love for learning, with plans to expand its network of schools in New York City. This role is crucial in ensuring students achieve excellent results in History courses through strategic vision, curriculum development, instructional management, and data analysis. The position is based at the Network Office in the Bronx, with a hybrid work arrangement allowing for some remote flexibility.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • At least five years of school leadership experience
  • Proven record of academic outcomes in History including, but not limited to, Regents exams and AP exams.
  • Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Design rigorous History learning experiences that deepen students’ understanding of complex texts and historical context, strengthen their ability to analyze evidence and competing perspectives, and develop their capacity to construct and communicate compelling arguments.
  • Lead HS History with a high bar of excellence to meet rigorous annual goals.
  • Develop authentic and meaningful relationships across Zeta to collaborate effectively to support growth in service of student learning. View every challenge as an opportunity for root cause analysis and change.
  • Create and curate curriculum across curriculum and assessment materials aligned with the New York State Learning Standards and our Zeta Learning Competencies, including unit plans, lesson plans, and assessments. Ensure a coherent sequence of learning through unit and lesson plans grounded in critical thinking.
  • Design and lead professional learning trainings for school principals, assistant principals, and teachers to lead to excellent academic results.
  • Develop clear instructional management plans to ensure all History instruction is consistently implemented at a high level. Observe instruction across Zeta schools and develop leaders and teachers in service of ensuring programming is implemented at a high level to lead to exceptional academic outcomes.
  • Study data to identify gaps and take action to ensure leaders and teachers are using data to increase learning outcomes.
  • Embrace a growth mindset. Actively seek, provide, and incorporate feedback, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Wear multiple hats as a part of a lean scale-up team, supporting the work of others on the team and taking on new projects and tasks as needed.
