About The Position

First American Title Insurance Company is hiring an Associate Claims Counsel to manage a personal title insurance claims load and oversee outside litigation counsel. The role involves complex legal analysis, problem-solving, negotiation, and claims administration, with responsibility for developing and carrying out strategies through final resolution. Requirements

Law degree required.
Licensed and in good standing to practice law in any state in the United States.
At least 2 years of experience, with an emphasis in litigation or claims handling.
Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement resolution strategies to fully conclude a claim.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate originality and ingenuity.

Nice To Haves

Real estate experience preferred.
Experience handling claims and insurance coverage preferred.

Responsibilities

Investigate claim facts and issues; determine coverage, evaluate losses under title policies, and assess defenses for the insured and/or the company.
Determine whether to retain outside counsel and develop and carry out plans to address claims through final resolution.
Negotiate settlements and resolutions with claimants, opposing counsel, and third parties.
Represent the company in court proceedings, mediations, and settlement conferences.
Manage claim budgets, review and approve outside counsel invoices and other expenses, and determine settlement and expense reserves.
Direct outside counsel on litigation strategy during claim administration and litigation.
Identify and pursue sources for recovery.
