The Associate Chaplain staffs the Mission Services Department at assigned hospitals and provides religious and spiritual care to patients, their families and visitors, and hospital staff. The position responds promptly to requests for spiritual care, assesses clients’ religious and spiritual needs, and offers support and guidance or helps address those needs when possible. The role integrates the organization’s mission and ethical values into patient care and spiritual care delivery. In partnership with the Experience Department, the Associate Chaplain supports a caring and compassionate experience for patients, families, and team members. This includes documenting rounds with patients and staff and performing service recovery when needed. The chaplain may provide psychosocial support at Incident Command during a hospital emergency. The role also requires clinical excellence and professional standards, pursuing the training needed for a chosen chaplain specialty, working toward board certification, developing research competency, and engaging in health-system best practices. The position is managed by the Spiritual Care Specialist in partnership with the Vice President of Mission Services.
