About The Position

The Associate Business Development Manager (BDM) within Corporate Research & Development plays a critical role in driving organic growth by connecting PPG's technologies with new market opportunities. You will focus on identifying unmet customer needs, uncovering new applications for existing or modified products, and allowing the successful transfer of technologies into departments and end markets that may not yet use them. You will work with technical experts, Corporate Strategy, and department leaders, the BDM supports both near-term revenue generation through product translation and long-term progress by shaping early-stage opportunities. Being a global connector across technologies and markets, you will improve development pipeline while ensuring it executes and transitions opportunities for commercial success. This onsite role will sit in our Allison Park, PA location and will report to Associate Director, S&T Research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field, with the ability to translate technical innovations into customer value
  • 6–8 years of industrial experience with a bachelor's degree, or 2–4 years with a PhD; prior commercial experience not required
  • Experience and successful in project execution
  • Demonstrated negotiation tactics

Responsibilities

  • Help fill and flow the opportunity and project pipeline in the front-end project portfolio by developing market analyses and go-to-market strategies with select guidance
  • Help facilitate project engagement with relevant SBUs at the opportune time and eventually coordinate project hand-offs in partnership with CIC SBU advocates
  • Develop new relationships and lead that can be transferred to SBU commercial teams upon opportunity
  • Collaborate with technical SMEs to define technical specifications for unmet market needs
  • Document and share knowledge through presentations and high-quality reports
  • Manage important partners throughout the innovation process including technical leadership, SBU commercial team members, and potential customers
