About The Position

The Associate, Banker – Industry/Country Coverage role at Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC in New York, New York focuses on structuring, analyzing, and executing transactions for companies within the natural resources sector. This involves reviewing financial models such as M&A, DCF, and LBO valuations, and assisting senior team members in evaluating these models to form key judgments. The role also requires analyzing accounting and regulatory statements, debt and equity filings, financial projections, and client-prepared financial models. A key aspect of the position is supervising and guiding junior professionals, including reviewing their financial modeling work and presentations for various corporate finance topics, transactions, board meetings, and client service projects. Additionally, the Associate will manage live deal execution, oversee due diligence, negotiate legal documents, organize roadshows, and liaise with other financial institutions. Daily interaction with senior management is expected for project execution, updates, advice, and presentation preparation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role.
  • Two (2) years of experience building and reviewing financial models in Excel or related spreadsheet tools, including analyzing and manipulating data using pivot tables and conducting sensitivity analyses.
  • Two (2) years of experience maintaining working knowledge and overseeing projects within the Natural Resources sector, including Oil & Gas, Chemicals and Infrastructure sectors.
  • Two (2) years of experience managing and coordinating multiple work streams with senior managers or various product experts across the company.
  • Two (2) years of experience developing client relationships including preparing materials tailored to client needs and strategic goals and providing technical support.
  • Two (2) years of experience interacting with clients in a manner that promotes continued engagement in future projects.
  • Two (2) years of experience interpreting data to develop presentations and present to senior managers on business related topics related to corporate strategy, financial results, and operational targets.
  • Two (2) years of experience preparing project proposal materials to aid in deal origination by utilizing valuation analyses and risk/returns dynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Structures, analyzes and executes transactions on behalf of companies in the natural resources sector.
  • Reviews proprietary financial models, such as M&A, DCF, and LBO valuations in the natural resources sector.
  • Helps senior team evaluate models to develop key judgments.
  • Analyzes accounting and regulatory statements, debt and equity filings and documents, financial projections and models as prepared in various formats by clients.
  • Supervises, guides and coordinates junior professionals’ work product, including reviewing financial modeling work and presentations prepared for transactions, corporate board meetings, investment banking pitches and client service projects on corporate finance topics.
  • Supervises and reviews memoranda required to gain internal approvals from typical investment banking committees.
  • Interacts with senior management on a daily basis to execute projects, provide updates and advice and prepare presentation materials.
  • Manages live deal execution in the natural resources sector, including running due diligence processes, negotiating non-disclosure agreements and other legal documents with lawyers and potential buyers, organizing and attending deal and non-deal roadshows and liaising other investment banks and other parties.
