About The Position

The Associate Attorney will assist the firm in developing its office and state practice in North Carolina and overseeing collection litigation for the states. This role involves full litigation responsibilities, including reviewing correspondence, determining suit appropriateness, approving pleadings, motions, and discovery, and attending hearings and trials. The attorney will manage a high-volume docket of civil litigation cases in debt collection, from commencement through post-judgment actions, and must be knowledgeable in post-judgment remedies like attachment and garnishment. Administrative duties include preparing forms and developing processes.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in the courtroom.
  • Substantial experience in the area of creditors’ rights and consumer laws (both state and federal).
  • Substantial experience in drafting forms.
  • Substantial experience in performing legal research.
  • Bar admission in North Carolina.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize high volumes of information.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm.
  • A Juris Doctor law degree.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a general litigation attorney.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina.
  • Experience in creditor’s rights litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist firm in developing office and state practice in North Carolina and overseeing collection litigation for the states.
  • Prepare forms and develop processes.
  • Review correspondence, review of files to determine whether they are suit appropriate, review and/or approval of all pleadings, motions and discovery.
  • Attend all types of hearings and trials in a high volume environment.
  • Manage high-volume docket of civil litigation cases in the area of debt-collection through all phases of litigation from commencement through post-judgment actions.
  • Be knowledgeable in post judgment remedies including attachment and garnishment.
