About The Position

As our Assistant Watch Engineer, at ENGIE’s Medical Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP) located in Boston, MA you will be responsible for operating and performing routine operating maintenance of steam, chilled water and electrical generating equipment for MATEP, LLC, satellite facilities and utility distribution system. Every day under the direction of the Watch Engineer, operate and maintain chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and related auxiliary equipment. You will also maintain logs, prepare equipment for operations or shutdown conditions, and monitor instrument readings. This position is overseen by the Operations or Watch Shift Supervisor. You will: Work internally in the physical plant and externally on the facility’s grounds or at satellite facilities; may be required to work overtime - relief, off-shift, and emergency coverage (nights, weekends,) and/or other, as needed Participate in the starting, control, operation, shutdown and inspection of chillers, pumps, cooling towers and all associated equipment; and perform boiler start-up and control, including burner light-off, adjustments for optimum firing, soot blowing, burner changing and cleaning; and will perform routine operating maintenance, as well as cleaning of equipment and plant work areas Monitor instrumentation and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for proper operating conditions, determine nature and cause of trouble and perform necessary corrective action to protect personnel, equipment, system integrity and maintain system efficiency and safety Perform regular inspection tours of the plant and distribution system including underground tunnels and electrical power systems; and prepare logs and other operating records including data collection via the plant computer Observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices, and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and company standards and, where applicable, local, state, and federal laws including participation in emergency response team Participate in mandatory training and other programs Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

  • A minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
  • A Valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineer’s License
  • This role requires attendance at a worksite daily
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 5%
  • You possess or have the desire to obtain a Valid CFC-2 and CFC-3 license; or a CFC-universal license
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license could possibly drive a company vehicle
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • This position consists of 25% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
  • May be required to obtain a Second-Class Industrial Wastewater Treatment license
  • The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment and clothing where appropriate because of their work around potential hazards such as loud noise, airborne particles, vibration and hazardous materials. Including but is not limited to, safety eyewear, footwear, hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, specialized clothing and a company issued uniform
  • Under certain conditions, while working in the plant, may be required to wear a respirator – respirators are required in specified areas, therefore the employee will be issued with and trained in the proper use of this equipment
  • May require repetitive stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and carrying, intermittent lifting
  • Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, high-lifts, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively

  • Perform routine operating maintenance, as well as cleaning of equipment and plant work areas
