About The Position

This role is responsible for maintaining the continuous operation of the riverboat's power supply and machinery. The Engineer-Of-Watch coordinates engineering tasks, oversees technicians, performs preventive maintenance, and responds to maintenance calls and emergencies. The position requires a strong understanding of vessel systems, safety equipment, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic marine environment.

Requirements

  • Successfully completes EOW Qualification Program.
  • Successfully completes an accredited course in basic firefighting (USCG-approved or Shreveport Fire Department training).
  • Successfully completes CPR, First Responder, and Automated Electronic Defibrillator (AED) certification.
  • Knowledge of computers and the ability to generate documents and keep accurate records.
  • Must be 21 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent verifiable satisfactory service totaling at least three years as an engineer / oiler / technician of a Louisiana Casino Riverboat, or equivalent marine experience.
  • Equivalent marine experience includes, but is not limited to: Holds an active or inactive USCG Merchant Mariner’s Document (MMD) for a Qualified Engineering Rating (QMED) with at least three years’ experience.
  • The MMD has not been revoked or suspended.
  • The experience was obtained no more than ten years ago.
  • Previously qualified watch stander and supervisor of technicians aboard government or military vessels that was less than ten years ago.
  • Must show knowledge of vessel systems comparable to those aboard the riverboat.
  • References or other proof of successful completion of duties will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates scheduled engineering tasks with the Captain-Of-The-Watch.
  • Directs the Riverboat Technician performing maintenance in the riverboat.
  • Completes scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and other work assigned by the EIC.
  • Maintains a continuous power supply to the riverboat through either the use of shore power or diesel generator sets.
  • Ensures the main generators are ready to auto start and assume the electrical load on the electrical buss when the riverboat experiences a loss of shore power.
  • Makes periodic rounds of the riverboat to verify that machinery and equipment are functioning properly.
  • Specifically checks the condition of fire and safety equipment.
  • Takes corrective action to remedy observed discrepancies.
  • Answers and remedies maintenance calls received during the watch.
  • Notifies the EIC of system malfunctions in accordance with Standing Orders.
  • Maintains an engine room watch log of all significant activities during the watch.
  • Fulfills emergency response duties assigned to the EOW in Station Bills.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
