About The Position

To organize, coordinate and promote a comprehensive athletics program in the assigned sport, this is designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community. To provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and will stress the importance of academics achievement. To demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, human relations, and be a positive role model for all students.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the assigned sport.
  • Requires work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis.
  • Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether like or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
  • Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisor.

  • Has thorough knowledge of the methods, policies and procedures of Spartanburg School District Seven pertaining to specific duties of the Assistant Volleyball Coach.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administrator may deem appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with the rules and regulations of Spartanburg School District Seven, South Carolina High School League, the AAAA Conference and Region III AAAA.
  • Prepare and submit an annual budget to the Director of Athletics and follow the procurement policies and school policies involving financial transactions.
  • Prepare reports, inventory and recommendations for equipment.
  • Communicate to all participants the policies of the team, local school, and School Board relating to school sponsored activities.
  • Submit forms as required by the South Carolina High School League, the School Board, and local school; i.e., eligibility rosters, players’ addresses, etc.
  • Be responsible for the assigned athletic program; establish procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.
  • Plan, organize, and implement the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and proper conditioning in the assigned sport.
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship; compile and maintain accurate individual and teal performance records; participate in the awards programs(s) according to school procedure.
  • Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in the program; provide for the safety of participants by inspecting facilities and equipment and being aware of environmental conditions.
  • Issue, collect, inventory, and store equipment consistent with department guidelines.
  • Instruct participants in safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and/or trainer immediately; implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations; ensure the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times.
  • Inform students of the insurance program available through Spartanburg School District Seven.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
