About The Position

To assist in the development and maintenance of a successful athletic program. This role involves working positively with student athletes to teach essential athletic skills, proper attitudes for competitive play, and the importance of winning gracefully and losing with dignity. The position also requires game preparation, positive program presentation to the community, and developing support from players, parents, and the community. The coach will work within the guidelines of WIAA, Greater Spokane League, and the Pullman School District.

Requirements

  • Successful competitive playing and/or coaching experience.
  • Per WIAA regulations, an assistant coach must be 19 years old.
  • Current First Aid/CPR card.
  • Pullman School District Type II driver’s license, or ability to obtain one upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • College/University training or experience in the activity.
  • Coaching experience at the middle school level or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a successful athletic program.
  • Work positively with student athletes to teach essential athletic skills necessary to compete.
  • Teach proper attitudes to play the sport competitively.
  • Teach proper attitudes regarding winning gracefully and losing with dignity.
  • Game preparation.
  • Positive presentation of the program to the community.
  • Develop support for the program from players, students, parents, and community.
  • Work within guidelines of WIAA, Greater Spokane League, and the Pullman School District.
  • Complete required WIAA rules clinic and concussion training.
  • Provide leadership in developmental programs.
  • Coordinate player development and skill level.
  • Cooperate with other school programs.
  • Adjust system to player personnel available upon recommendation of head coach.
  • Willingness to participate and assist in coordination of summer programs.
  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff, parents, community members, other agencies, etc.).
  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner.
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance.
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible.
