The Assistant Transportation Manager is responsible for assisting the Contractual Manager in supervising daily operations, monitoring performance, identifying safety issues, and resolving conflicts. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years experience in transportation
  • 2-3 years supervisory experience
  • Computer literacy skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiar with basic vehicle mechanic processes and maintenance
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Work extended hours regularly, including weekends
  • Possess working vehicle to travel within service area as needed
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in management or equivalent.
  • Mastery of safety policies and practices.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and communication tools.
  • Familiarity with the operations of a division.
  • Knowledge of the Highway Code, municipal regulations, and applicable Quebec laws.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance to identify problems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures home to school routes are covered in a timely and efficient manner
  • Interfaces with drivers regarding concerns and performance issues
  • Investigates client complaints and coordinates resolutions
  • Ensures achievement of on time performance goals
  • Monitors driver safety and makes Injury Prevention (IP) contacts with drivers to identify and resolve safety issues
  • Assist Contractual Manager with review and resolution of union grievances
  • Ensures dispatch staff assigns spare drivers and buses as required to provide on-time coverage of routes
  • Audits and corrects athletic trip invoices based on company guidelines
  • Supervises the daily operations of the division.
  • Collaborates with supervisors of drivers, administrative staff, and mechanics to ensure operational procedures are followed.
  • Provides quality service to employees through training, coaching, positive reinforcement, and exemplary leadership.
  • Acts as a liaison with transportation organizations and their representatives.
  • Manages vehicle and route assignments according to division standards.
  • Ensures vehicle maintenance is performed efficiently and on time.
  • Supports the implementation of new company programs and policies.
  • Assists the division manager with labor, development, and training matters.
  • Actively participates in the health and safety committee.
  • Collaborates with dispatch to ensure smooth route execution and resolve driver issues.
  • Contributes to budget preparation with the dispatch team.
  • Conducts interviews and hires drivers.
  • Manages accident investigations and reports.
  • Produces monthly reports (fuel, payroll, accounts payable).
  • Manages off-site parking permits and maintains a list of locations.
  • Administers the external refueling process with fuel cards.
  • Supervises and manages any additional projects as needed.
