About The Position

This role is for Laboratory and Field Technicians to join the Materials Engineering Team across Atlantic Canada. The position will support seasonal project demands and may be offered as a seasonal role. The technician will conduct various tests, analyses, and experiments to characterize and evaluate the properties of materials used in construction for major clients, contributing to the advancement of cutting-edge technologies and the creation of novel materials.

Requirements

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience or interest in field and laboratory testing of construction materials such as soils, concrete and asphalt.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software for data analysis.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision in all tasks.
  • Enjoy a combination of fieldwork and office-based work and are comfortable travelling to various project sites as required.
  • A valid driver's licence and the ability to provide a current, satisfactory driver's abstract are required.
  • Self-starter who is driven to learn and eager to engage with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety requirements in the workplace and a strong safety-first mindset.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills, along with strong reliability, punctuality and time-management skills.
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of field and/or laboratory tests and experiments to assess material (soil, concrete and hot mix asphalt) properties, composition, and behaviour.
  • Operate and maintain testing equipment and instruments, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Support equipment calibration, maintenance and general housekeeping requirements to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Support sample management and safe material handling practices required for shipping, receiving, logging, handling, storage and disposal of samples.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, scientists and technical specialists to support ongoing projects and deliver valuable insights.
  • Compile and analyze experimental data using a variety of test methods and prepare clear, concise reports.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously using strong organizational and scheduling skills.
  • Follow WSP's Project Review, Ethics and Safety Policies while contributing to the success of major infrastructure and construction projects.
