An Assistant Teaching Professor is a full-time faculty position appointed for a limited term at the discretion of the Dean and does not have a presumption of renewability. Within the School of Law, the position is a non-voting member of the faculty. The position has instructional, service, and additional responsibilities which include: Juris Doctor Teaching Load: You will be assigned three (3) courses to teach during the 2026-2027 academic year. Your courses will be selected in consultation with the Vice Dean, from the following list: a. Negotiations b. Alternative Dispute Resolution Teaching-Related Duties: Additional duties include (but are not limited to) student consultation (a posted schedule of office hours with a minimum of five hours a week over a period of at least two days during which you are available to students without the necessity for prescheduled appointments), course development and refresh, and supervising directed research and/or law journal notes (you will not be expected to supervise more than four students, unless you so desire). Service: Service to the School of Law is defined and assigned by the Dean or Dean’s designee. It may include: a. Serving on faculty committees, b. Attendance at open agenda faculty meetings (excluding personnel and/or Executive Committee discussions) as a non-voting member, and c. Other duties as defined by the Dean or the Dean’s designee. No Presumption of Renewal: The Dean has discretion to consider whether or not to renew your teaching arrangements. Any renewal of the instructor contract is subject to institutional needs, the positive recommendation to the Dean based on student, faculty, staff and other constituent feedback, and the Dean’s approval. Full-Time Requirements: This is a full-time faculty position. Under ABA requirements and AALS standards, a full-time faculty member is expected to devote all or substantially all of his or her time to her faculty responsibilities. Emory has a conflict of interest/commitment process that (a) requires faculty members engaged in external activities to request authorization from the Dean ahead of time; and (b) requires annual certification about the number of hours of external activity, which is expected not to exceed 52 days (which is calculated as 416 hours and assumes an eight-hour day). NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
