About The Position

The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of North Dakota (UND) is seeking a one-year special appointment Teaching Assistant Professor in performance. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position contingent upon enrollment and funding. UND, established in 1883, is North Dakota's oldest research university with a strong liberal arts foundation and very high research activity. Located in Grand Forks, UND offers over 225 fields of study to more than 16,000 students. Requirements

  • MFA in Directing or Acting
  • 3 years experience at the university level teaching acting and dance or choreography
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
  • Demonstrated ability to teach acting and dance classes at varying levels of the university curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to direct theatre productions
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to work with and engage with diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Department of Theatre Arts
  • Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years' experience at the university level teaching acting, and dance, or choreography
  • Demonstrated excellence directing musical theatre

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 3/3 load including sections of THEA 161 Acting I, THEA 245 Dance Fundamentals, THEA 345 Dance Special Topics, and other courses as assigned
  • Direct a fall production
  • Choreograph the spring musical
  • Assist the department in recruiting activities
  • Oversee the BA in Acting majors and Dance minors
  • Contribute to service within the department, college, university, and community
  • Participate in the department’s recruitment and outreach initiatives
  • Engage in routine professional development to enhance knowledge, skills, and effectiveness
