About The Position

This position is a full-time, academic-year, non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor position in the School of Business at the University of Kansas. The position's primary responsibility is teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Finance and Economics, with a particular emphasis on courses supporting the Bicknell Certificate in Personal Finance, KU's CFP® program within the School of Business. The role involves teaching courses on various topics in personal and household finance, personal financial planning, insurance, economics, finance, and foundations of business. Potential course assignments include FIN 330 Introduction to Financial Planning and Retirement and FIN 430 Financial Planning Capstone. Duties include instruction, course preparation, consultation, and grading. Courses may be taught online or on-campus. The typical course load is eight courses per academic year, determined by the Finance Area Director. Faculty are expected to abide by university policies and engage in service activities, including professional and scholarly engagement that supports instruction and student development. Requirements

  • Possess a PhD in Finance or closely related discipline, OR an MBA or other professional degree in a closely related discipline plus a demonstrated record of scholarship and achievement, by the start of the appointment.
  • Documented ability or high potential to successfully teach across student populations, as demonstrated by prior experience in teaching, training, leadership, or other relevant experience.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate or graduate level courses on various topics in personal and household finance, personal financial planning, insurance, economics, finance and/or foundations of business.
  • Potential course assignments include FIN 330 Introduction to Financial Planning and Retirement and FIN 430 Financial Planning Capstone within the Bicknell Certificate in Personal Finance.
  • Instruction in the area of finance, course preparation, consultation, and assignment of course grades.
  • Courses may be taught in online or on-campus formats.
  • Engage in service both within and outside the school and university, including professional and scholarly engagement activities that support instruction and student development.
  • Participate as an active member of the area and engage in instruction-related activities beyond direct instruction.
  • Fulfill share of service duties needed to facilitate the efficient operation of the school.
  • Perform additional position-related activities as assigned by the Dean or Area Director.
