About The Position

The Department of English and Writing at the University of Tampa is seeking to fill a full-time and continuing position as Assistant Teaching Professor of English and Writing, starting in August 2027. The University of Tampa is a private institution with over 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students, located on a 110-acre campus in Tampa, Florida. The Academic Writing Program is looking for candidates with experience and enthusiasm for teaching academic writing to a diverse student body. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated teacher with a strong commitment to academic writing and its pedagogy. The role involves teaching seven four-hour courses in academic writing per year on campus. In addition to teaching, successful candidates will contribute to the Academic Writing Program through curriculum development and committee work. There may also be opportunities to teach humanities courses and serve as Assistant Director of the Academic Writing Program.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in English or related field.
  • College- or university-level experience teaching academic writing.
  • Demonstrated scholarly/professional activity.
  • Ability to attach a cover letter detailing teaching experience and scholarly interests.
  • Ability to attach a current curriculum vitae.
  • Ability to attach a scholarly writing sample.
  • Ability to provide name and contact information for three (3) professional references.

Responsibilities

  • Teach seven four-hour courses in academic writing per year.
  • Participate in curricular initiatives for the Academic Writing Program.
  • Take part in committee work.
  • Potentially teach humanities courses in the general education curriculum.
  • Potentially serve as Assistant Director of the Academic Writing Program.
