About The Position

Oxford College, Emory University’s residential liberal arts college, seeks two full-time Assistant Teaching Professors in Biology, beginning August 1, 2027. The college welcomes broadly trained biologists committed to excellent undergraduate teaching, particularly candidates who approach introductory biology as an intellectually important part of their teaching. Successful candidates will help first- and second-year students build foundational biological knowledge, scientific reasoning skills, and confidence in working with scientific evidence. The professors will teach lecture and laboratory sections in Oxford’s two-semester introductory biology sequence, which covers subjects ranging from cell structures and cellular respiration to molecular processes, genetics, gene expression, and evolution. Additional teaching may include Oxford’s first-year Discovery Seminar program, electives related to the candidate’s expertise that support undergraduate research, or courses in the General Education Program. The standard teaching load is two lecture sections and two laboratory sections per semester, or the equivalent. These are teaching-track faculty positions on long-term contracts, with full faculty governance rights and responsibilities and a path to promotion to Associate and Full Teaching Professor. Excellence in teaching is the primary responsibility. Faculty are also expected to contribute to program administration, advising, and service. Independent research productivity and peer-reviewed publications are not required. Oxford College serves approximately 1,000 first- and second-year students in an intensive liberal arts setting. Its small classes and laboratory sections support active, collaborative, inquiry-driven learning. Campus resources for experiential learning include a climate-controlled greenhouse, the Oxford College Organic Farm, and more than 100 acres of nearby college-owned natural habitats. Faculty can also access Emory University resources, including its High-Performance Computing cluster and domain-specific software and licenses. Applications must be received by January 4, 2027, for full consideration. Candidates who advance in the search will be asked to provide three letters of recommendation.
