About The Position

Union County Community Action, Inc. is seeking a caring, dependable Assistant Teacher to support preschool classrooms and help safely transport children to and from school. The role involves building positive relationships with children and families while supporting children’s development and classroom activities. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., for 40 hours per week. The starting rate is $17.00 per hour.

Requirements

• For Assistant Teacher/Bus Driver I: High school diploma or GED and Child Development Associate (CDA).
• EDU 119 is required.
• A CDL is required, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• CPR and First Aid certification are required, or the ability to obtain them.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and TB test, and submit to random drug screenings.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Must be able to actively supervise young children in classroom and outdoor environments, assist children on and off the bus, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Six months to one year of related experience preferred.
• For Assistant Teacher/Bus Driver II: An associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field is preferred.
• Six months to one year of related experience preferred for Assistant Teacher/Bus Driver II.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with classroom activities and lesson plans.
• Support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.
• Maintain classroom documentation and records.
• Supervise children in classroom and outdoor settings.
• Assist with transportation by driving or monitoring buses.
• Build positive relationships with children and families.
