About The Position

The Assistant Teacher II will support special educators and therapists serving a varied population of students in a full-day rehabilitation setting. This role is crucial in supporting patients' educational needs during their rehabilitation stay, which may include instructing on schoolwork, implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and supporting each student/patient's rehabilitation treatment plan. The incumbent will assist in adapting instruction to meet the individual academic, medical, developmental, and technological needs of students/patients. Responsibilities include general classroom management (arrival, meals, dismissal), greeting families, orienting students/patients to schedules, and consistently implementing behavioral plans. The Assistant Teacher II will independently fulfill teacher duties and responsibilities under the direction of the Educational Transition Therapist as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a classroom setting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • In cooperation with the supervising teacher, plan and implement instruction in accordance with each student’s IEP as well as their rehabilitation and treatment plan, while using effective strategies for academic and behavioral success.
  • Complete instructional-related duties as assigned by supervising teachers and administrators.
  • Implement behavioral protocols/assignments for students during instructional and non-instructional times.
  • Participate in and contribute to in-service training and staff meetings in a professional and collegial manner.
  • Provide support and leadership for curricular and extra-curricular activities that promote a positive Fairmount Rehabilitation Program experience.
  • Assist with the implementation of technology in instructional design and delivery in accordance with supervising teacher’s directions.
  • Identify changes in the physical, health, or emotional status of the students and report these changes to the nurse.
  • Perform direct-care patient duties including, but not limited to, assisting with arrival and dismissal, hygiene/dressing needs, daily schedule and communication needs, and facilitating meals.
  • Assist with programmatic functions and clerical duties that support the program, to include arranging transportation for patients; organizing therapeutic outings; and setting-up, maintaining, and cleaning patient treatment areas before and after treatment sessions.
  • Provide independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.
  • Provide coverage for Rehabilitation Aide/Tech duties as needed.
