Assistant Superintendent
About The Position
We are hiring an Assistant Superintendent to support the Superintendent and take direct responsibility for assigned areas of the project. This is a hands-on field leadership position responsible for subcontractor coordination, safety, quality, inspections, material delivery, and daily production. The Assistant Superintendent helps turn the project schedule into daily field execution. You will work directly with subcontractors, trades, vendors, inspectors, and members of the project team to ensure assigned work is completed safely, correctly, and on schedule. You will not spend the day shadowing the Superintendent or waiting to be told what to do next. You will be expected to understand your assigned scope, walk the work, identify issues, coordinate solutions, document progress, and keep the Superintendent informed. This role is also an opportunity to develop the technical knowledge, leadership skills, and field judgment required to eventually run a project.
Requirements
- Three or more years of related construction experience, preferably in multifamily construction
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Procore
- Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, details, and schedules
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with subcontractors, inspectors, vendors, and project leadership
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under deadlines
- Conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate forklifts and other required site equipment
- Valid state-issued driver’s license
- Ability to travel frequently and work weekends when required by project demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to climb, bend, kneel, reach, and work throughout an active construction site
- Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds
- Authorization to work in the United States
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school preferred
- Relevant construction experience may be considered in place of formal education
- Experience with Microsoft Project preferred
Responsibilities
- Supporting the Superintendent in leading and coordinating jobsite operations
- Directing subcontractors and trade labor within assigned areas
- Using the project production schedule to plan and coordinate daily work
- Communicating daily expectations, sequencing, access requirements, and deadlines to subcontractors
- Monitoring subcontractor manpower and production
- Identifying schedule concerns and escalating them before they become project delays
- Ensuring company safety requirements and site-specific safety procedures are followed
- Participating in weekly safety, production, coordination, and project meetings
- Walking assigned work to confirm compliance with plans, specifications, and quality standards
- Pre-walking work before scheduled inspections
- Coordinating and attending required project inspections
- Identifying deficient or incomplete work and ensuring corrective work is completed
- Supporting project quality control and life-safety checkout procedures
- Coordinating the scheduling, delivery, unloading, staging, and protection of project materials
- Operating forklifts and other approved site equipment when required
- Maintaining clean, safe, and orderly work areas
- Managing field labor assigned to specific project tasks
- Maintaining accurate daily logs of jobsite activities, manpower, deliveries, inspections, delays, and significant events
- Reviewing current plans, details, and project information before directing work
- Maintaining productive working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and governing authorities
- Keeping the Superintendent and project leadership informed of progress, concerns, and upcoming needs
- Supporting punch-list completion and project turnover
- Representing RISE professionally on the jobsite
- Taking on additional field responsibilities as experience and capability develop
