About The Position

The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults on their hair care needs, and recommends products and services. This temporary role is intended to prepare the associate for a stylist position and focuses on delivering quality professional services with attention to the guest’s total look. During the first three months, the Assistant Stylist is mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist and develops performance, guest-service, and operational skills. During months four through six, the associate continues assisting while beginning to serve guests independently. The role requires enthusiasm for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the ability and willingness to develop technical skills and product knowledge. The Assistant Stylist supports salon and store performance, builds guest relationships, collaborates with salon and retail colleagues, and follows company operating, safety, sanitation, and compliance standards. The role includes salon services and product recommendations, maintaining a clean and guest-ready environment, and participating in training and store initiatives.

Requirements

Cosmetology license.
Basic understanding of salon techniques for haircutting, hair color, lightening, styling, texture, treatments, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable, and/or aptitude to develop skills in these service categories.
Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals used for technical work.
Basic ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional haircare and makeup products.
Developed communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and build clientele.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
Support a mentor Stylist in meeting hair-service and haircare-product sales and productivity goals through add-on recommendations, shampooing and treatments, blowouts and styling, color applications, assisting with foils, cleaning and organizing, pre-booking, and retail recommendations.
After the third month, perform hair and beauty services, including hair design, haircuts, color, texture services, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable.
Demonstrate products to guests to support sales and the guest-service experience.
Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services and their ingredients and benefits during work time.
Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner under another stylist’s mentorship.
Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded guest experience.
Build professional relationships with peers and brand partners to collaborate on guest service.
Explain the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to salon and salesfloor guests.
Follow company policies, procedures, standards, safety and sanitation practices, infection-control procedures, and applicable state board guidelines.
Follow established service protocols and use booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager and maintain guest readiness.
Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in assigned areas, including the salon and store spaces.
Attend mandatory trainings and meetings and follow the Ulta Beauty dress code.
Protect company assets by following loss-prevention practices and providing exceptional guest service.
Complete other operational tasks as directed.
