About The Position

The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults with them about their hair care needs, and recommends products and services. This temporary position is intended to prepare the associate for a Stylist role and deliver quality professional services focused on the guest’s total look. For the first three months, the Assistant Stylist is mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist and focuses on performance, guest service, operating procedures, and compliance. During months four through six, the associate continues assisting while beginning to serve guests independently. The role requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the aptitude and willingness to learn additional technical skills and product knowledge. The Assistant Stylist supports sales and productivity goals, develops guest relationships, performs and assists with salon services, and contributes to store events and operational standards. The associate follows company policies, safety and sanitation procedures, service protocols, and applicable state board guidelines. The role requires a cosmetology license and a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

Cosmetology license.
Basic understanding of current salon techniques for haircutting, hair color, lightening, styling, texture, treatments, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable, or an aptitude to develop skills in these categories.
Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals used for technical work.
Basic understanding of how to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
Developed communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and develop clientele.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
Support a mentor Stylist’s sales and productivity goals through add-on recommendations, shampooing and treatments, blowouts and styling, color applications, foil assistance, cleaning and organizing, pre-booking, and retail recommendations.
After month three, perform services such as hair design, haircuts, color, texture services, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable.
Demonstrate products to guests to support sales and the guest service experience.
Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, including their ingredients and benefits.
Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate product and service recommendations.
Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner under the mentorship of another stylist.
Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded guest experience.
Build professional relationships with peers and brand partners to support collaborative guest service.
Explain the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
Follow company policies, procedures, standards, safety and sanitation practices, infection control procedures, state board guidelines, and service protocols.
Use booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager and maintain guest readiness.
Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in assigned areas, including the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for professional development.
Follow the Ulta Beauty dress code and loss-prevention practices.
Complete other operational tasks and assigned duties.
