About The Position

The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults with them about their hair care needs, and recommends products and services. This temporary position is intended to prepare the associate for a Stylist role and delivery of quality professional services focused on the guest’s total look. For the first three months, the Assistant Stylist is mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist and focuses on performance, guest service, and operating procedures and compliance. During months four through six, the associate continues assisting while beginning to service guests independently. The role requires passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and willingness and aptitude to learn additional technical skills and product knowledge. The Assistant Stylist supports salon and store sales, productivity, guest loyalty, and operations. Duties include assisting a mentor stylist with salon services and related tasks, developing guest relationships, recommending products and services, and maintaining safety, sanitation, compliance, and operational standards. After month three, the associate performs a range of hair and beauty services.

Requirements

Cosmetology license.
Basic understanding of salon techniques for haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatments, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable, and/or aptitude to develop skills in these service categories.
Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals used for technical work.
Basic understanding of demonstrating, recommending, and selling professional hair-care and makeup products.
Developed communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
Support a mentor Stylist’s sales and productivity goals through add-on recommendations, shampooing and treatments, blowouts and styling, color applications, foil assistance, cleaning and organization, pre-booking, and retail recommendations.
After month three, perform services including hair design, haircuts, color, texture services, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable.
Demonstrate products to guests to support sales and the guest experience.
Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, including their ingredients and benefits.
Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate product and service recommendations.
Serve all guests, including walk-ins, promptly and efficiently under the mentorship of another stylist.
Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded guest experience.
Build professional relationships with peers and brand partners to support collaborative guest service.
Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
Follow company policies, procedures, standards, and service protocols.
Follow safety, sanitation, infection-control procedures, and state board guidelines before, during, and after services.
Use booking and clientele systems to book return services and events.
Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager and maintain guest readiness.
Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in assigned store areas.
Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for ongoing professional development.
Follow the Ulta Beauty dress code.
Protect company assets by following loss-prevention practices and providing exceptional guest service.
Complete other operational tasks as directed.
