Assistant Store Manager - Fairview Heights, Fairview Heights, IL
About The Position
The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in daily retail store operations to help achieve sales and profitability goals. The role includes merchandising execution, expense and inventory management, team training and development, human resources support, operational compliance, and delivering outstanding customer service. The position may require work in multiple stores within the assigned district and travel by car, plane, or train. The standard work week does not exceed 40 hours, and a flexible schedule is required, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
- At least one year of retail management experience.
- Solid knowledge of business and excellent command of English to communicate effectively with management, associates, and customers.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy when handling sensitive and confidential situations.
- Ability to think strategically, plan, and organize effectively.
- Ability to maintain professionalism in all situations.
- Proficient analytical ability to gather and summarize report data, solve administrative problems, and prioritize work.
- Results-driven, with critical and creative thinking skills, project management, time management, analytical, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, and use independent judgment, compassion, and diplomacy.
- Ability to plan, organize, multitask, and set priorities while responding proactively to changing demands from multiple sources.
- Ability to execute directives precisely and consistently.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Willingness to work in multiple stores within the assigned district.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work extended hours during critical project phases and in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with flexibility.
- Reliable transportation.
- Willingness to travel by car, plane, or train.
Responsibilities
- Support the overall quality and performance of retail store staff.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Model effective leadership to gain commitment to store goals and training standards.
- Assist with recruiting, selecting, training, and developing store personnel.
- Assist the Store Manager and provide feedback on annual performance evaluations for store employees.
- Assist with expense management and develop strategies to keep stores performing within budget.
- Help monitor and identify loss or inventory inconsistencies so the store meets shrink goals at or below company plan.
- Monitor and control operational compliance, safety, and business standards.
- Support employee training in suggested selling and merchandising techniques.
- Uphold customer service standards and provide a friendly environment so customers receive outstanding service.
- Assist in completing accurate, regular merchandise inventory counts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
