About The Position

The State Auditor's Office (SAO) is seeking innovative and talented individuals to join their team. The SAO works to ensure the effective operation of state government and provides valuable audits to the governments they serve. The Assistant State Auditor position is part of an in-training program designed for individuals with limited audit experience, providing classes, on-the-job training, and feedback to develop necessary skills. Most of the work is performed in the field at governmental entities, often in teams. Team Olympia, one of 17 local audit teams, conducts accountability, financial, and single audits in Thurston, Grays Harbor, Lewis, and Pacific Counties. They partner with entities to increase trust in government through efficient, high-quality audits, meaningful recommendations, and strong relationships built on communication, education, and mutual respect. Requirements

  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Time/Project Management skills.
  • Understanding of Accounting concepts/principles as they relate to Auditing.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three college-level accounting courses.
  • Option 2: 4 years of business or relevant experience, with a minimum of 1 year in accounting/auditing.
  • Option 3: Any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in accounting, auditing, finance, banking, or financial investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct accountability, financial, and single (federal grant compliance) audits.
  • Partner with entities to increase trust in government.
  • Produce efficient and high-quality audits through collaboration and teamwork.

  • Travel occasionally on a daily and overnight basis to client locations.
