About The Position

As an Assistant Shipping/Receiving Supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting the Shipping Manager in all aspects of the warehouse, ensuring work completed efficiently and effectively throughout the Shipping and Receiving departments. This role involves monitoring workflow processes, analyzing data to identify improvement opportunities, and ensuring critical functions are maintained. You will also lead, motivate, train, and direct employees, coach and develop them, and delegate responsibility. Partnering with other branches to learn best practices and designing programs to improve department efficiency are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to monitor/assess your own performance and others’ to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Ability to effectively use Word, Excel, and Outlook to carry out work.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to conduct tests and inspections of processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Knowledge of elimination of waste, continuous improvement, S5, Kaizen, Quality Built In, JIT, Kanban, and levelized production.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • 4 years of experience in shipping.
  • 1 year of warehouse supervision or managing others is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • A two year degree, technical school certificate in Business, or equivalent experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor workflow processes while looking for improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze data, such as SAP productivity reports, errors, and schedules, daily and make recommendations for improvement accordingly.
  • Ensure critical functions are maintained such as, but not limited to: PGIs completed, proper cycle counts, batch management, and audits of orders.
  • Create reports, spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Lead, motivate, train, and direct employees using effective performance management techniques, including establishing expectations and goals, providing recognition and feedback, and addressing performance problems.
  • Coach, encourage, and develop employees according to their unique interests and strengths.
  • Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.
  • Have a presence on the shop floor to assist and guide leads and employees with daily tasks.
  • Partner with other branches and places of knowledge to learn Simpson practices and gain new ideas to put into practice.
  • Design and drive programs to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
