About The Position

The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for the end-to-end execution, coordination, and performance of outbound shipping and inbound receiving operations. This role directly impacts customer delivery performance, inventory accuracy, and plant efficiency. Strong execution in this position ensures smooth material flow, reduces errors and costs, and supports overall operational performance. The Supervisor leads daily execution across packaging, loading, receiving, inspection coordination, and system transactions, while driving a structured, safe, and efficient environment. This role owns shipment readiness, receiving accuracy, and communication across Scheduling, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years experience in Shipping/Receiving or Warehouse operations
  • Previous leadership or team lead experience
  • Forklift certification (Counterbalance)
  • Strong understanding of material handling, packaging, and logistics flow
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Reliable attendance and schedule adherence

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in metals or industrial manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., JobBoss, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Knowledge of shipping regulations and carrier requirements
  • First Aid / CPR certification
  • Experience with quality systems (NCR, MRB, traceability)

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee all outbound shipping activities to ensure on-time delivery performance.
  • Prioritize shipments based on customer commitments, cut-off times, and production output.
  • Review and validate shipping documentation (BOLs, packing slips, certifications, customer-specific requirements).
  • Ensure proper packaging standards are followed (skids, crates, banding, protection, labeling).
  • Coordinate trailer loading to optimize space, weight distribution, and transport safety (our truck).
  • Create and maintain shipping documentation using systems (e.g., JobBoss, ERP, carrier portals).
  • Ensure all shipments meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
  • Oversee all inbound material flow including raw materials, purchased components, and subcontracted returns.
  • Schedule and coordinate inbound deliveries to align with plant capacity and staging space.
  • Ensure all incoming materials are verified against purchase orders and packing slips, accurately counted, weighed, and inspected for visible damage.
  • Coordinate with Quality for incoming inspection requirements and hold/reject material handling (NCR, MRB process adherence).
  • Ensure timely system transactions: receipt entry in ERP (JobBoss or equivalent).
  • Establish and maintain proper material identification and labeling standards where applicable.
  • Control material flow into correct staging areas (production, stock, quarantine).
  • Manage discrepancies: shortages, overages, damages, supplier non-conformance escalation.
  • Create a “pull-based” environment by aligning Shipping with production completion, scheduling priorities and quality release status.
  • Communicate daily with cross-functional teams to ensure readiness of shipments and materials.
  • Remove bottlenecks impacting flow (packaging delays, inspection holds, staging issues).
  • Ensure proper staging and movement of materials to minimize handling and errors.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Shipping & Receiving personnel.
  • Set daily expectations and assign work based on priorities and workload.
  • Train employees on: packaging standards, equipment operation (forklift, lifting devices), system transactions, safety procedures, reinforce accountability, standard work, and performance expectations.
  • Promote a culture of ownership, teamwork, learning and continuous improvement.
  • Enforce all company safety policies and procedures without exception.
  • Ensure safe operation of forklifts, cranes, and material handling equipment.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free dock and staging areas.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and address risks proactively.
  • Immediately report and investigate incidents.
  • Maintain accurate records of all inbound and outbound transactions.
  • Ensure traceability of materials where required (heat numbers, batch tracking).
  • Support cycle counts and inventory audits where applicable.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and completeness for: shipments, receipt, certifications and compliance records.
  • Assist with month-end activities (inventory reconciliation, reporting).
  • Support audits and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain supplies (packaging materials, labels, etc.).
  • Participate in Lean initiatives and standardization efforts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support plant operations.
