About The Position

HII Mission Technologies is seeking an experienced finance and accounting leader to serve as Assistant Segment Controller. This visible leadership role partners with the Segment Controller and senior finance leadership to oversee accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance across the segment. The role helps ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting, maintain an effective control environment, and provide financial insight for business decisions. The Assistant Segment Controller leads and supports financial close and reporting activities, compliance and control programs, audits, and process improvements. The position also provides accounting and analytical guidance to business and finance leaders, participates in strategic projects, and leads, coaches, and develops team members across a complex organization.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field and 10 years of relevant progressive experience; or a Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field and 8 years; or high school diploma/equivalent and 14 years. Relevant experience must include progressive experience in audit, accounting, and SEC reporting.
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Public accounting experience.
Government accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, PCAOB standards, and SEC financial rules and regulations.
Strong knowledge of SOX requirements and the COSO framework.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial matters effectively.
Strong project management, interpersonal, leadership, and coaching skills.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a complex business environment.

Responsibilities

Partner with the Segment Controller to oversee financial accounting and reporting operations, including consolidated periodic reporting and analysis.
Lead monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring timely, accurate reporting compliant with U.S. GAAP and HII close requirements.
Help implement and maintain consistent finance policies, procedures, and accounting practices across the segment.
Support accounting systems, policies, and internal controls in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, SOX standards, and the COSO framework.
Support quarterly compliance activities and management’s annual control self-assessment program.
Review financial results, analyze variances and trends, and provide insights to segment leadership for business decisions.
Provide accounting guidance, financial interpretation, and analytical support to business and finance leaders, including on government accounting rules and regulations.
Assess cash flows, financial position, operating results, and variances, and prepare quarterly MD&A presentations.
Support internal and external audits and lead the development and execution of remediation plans for audit findings.
Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, financial reporting, operational efficiency, and cross-functional coordination.
Provide ad hoc financial analysis and insights to Segment and HII leadership.
Participate in strategic and special projects at the direction of the Segment Controller, CFO, and President.
Lead, coach, and develop team members while fostering accountability, collaboration, high performance, and continuous improvement.
