About The Position

HII Mission Technologies is seeking an accomplished finance and accounting leader to serve as Assistant Segment Controller. This highly visible leadership role partners closely with the Segment Controller and senior finance leadership to oversee accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance across the segment. The role helps ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting, maintain an effective control environment, and provide financial insight that supports business decisions. The Assistant Segment Controller helps improve accounting processes, develops talent, and partners with finance and business leaders throughout Mission Technologies and HII. The position operates in a complex organization and contributes to the ongoing effectiveness and evolution of the finance organization.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field and 10 years of relevant progressive experience; or a master’s degree in Accounting or a related field and 8 years; or a high school diploma/equivalent and 14 years.
Relevant experience must include progressive experience in audit, accounting, and SEC reporting.
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Public accounting experience.
Government accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, PCAOB standards, and SEC financial rules and regulations.
Strong knowledge of SOX requirements and the COSO framework.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial matters effectively.
Strong project management, interpersonal, leadership, and coaching skills.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a complex business environment.

Responsibilities

Partner with the Segment Controller to oversee financial accounting and reporting operations, including consolidated periodic financial reporting and analysis.
Lead monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant reporting under U.S. GAAP and HII close requirements.
Help ensure finance policies, procedures, and accounting practices are consistently implemented across the segment.
Support effective accounting systems, policies, and internal controls in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, SOX standards, and the COSO framework.
Support quarterly compliance activities and management’s annual control self-assessment program.
Review financial results, analyze variances, identify trends, and provide insights to segment leadership for business decisions.
Partner with business and finance leaders to provide accounting guidance, financial interpretation, and analytical support, including guidance on government accounting rules and regulations.
Assess segment cash flows, financial position, operating results, and variances; prepare quarterly management discussion and analysis (MD&A) presentations.
Support internal and external audits and lead the development and execution of remediation plans resulting from audit findings.
Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, financial reporting, operational efficiency, and cross-functional coordination.
Provide ad hoc financial analysis and insights to Segment and HII leadership as needed.
Participate in strategic and special projects at the direction of the Segment Controller, CFO, and President.
Lead, coach, and develop team members, fostering accountability, collaboration, high performance, and continuous improvement.
