About The Position

The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing the administration of the company Health and Safety Program (HSP) and contractual safety requirements to prevent and correct unsafe working conditions at the project level. Provide proper planning, training, project inspections and coaching safe work behaviors are fundamental expectation to the success of the position. In this role you may be periodically assigned to support a project and/or required to travel up to 50% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management or related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the construction industry and 1-3 years’ experience in construction or related industry as a safety manager/coordinator OR 5 years’ experience on site directly managing trades required
  • Proficient in MS Office and Apple Operating Systems.
  • Ability to communicate fluently (read, write, speak) in Spanish
  • Valid Driver's License required

  • Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) or Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide company leadership and direction as it relates to all areas of safety and training.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Health and Safety Program (HSP), and Code of Safe Practices (Attachment-J) revisions, etc.
  • Coordinate weekly with general superintendents to determine project needs, conduct regular work area inspections, assessments, surveys and program evaluations to identify potential hazards and for compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations and contract requirements. Regularly review jobsite conditions as they pertain to state and/or federal regulatory requirements and public protection.
  • Conduct follow-up inspections and track risk/hazards/discrepancies in accordance with company Health and Safety Program (HSP) and contractual safety requirements.
  • Document safety inspections, prepare and distribute reports and follow-up with project team for corrective actions that have been implemented and documented.
  • Keep superintendents and project management abreast of potential areas of risk and identify cost effective solutions to mitigate.
  • Coordinate and support pre-construction efforts planning safety into projects. Participate in pre-construction meetings when requested to analyze risk and support project teams to effectively identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Support site specific pre-job safety meeting (e.g. Cranes. Formwork, Window Washer. Mast Climber, etc.).
  • Conduct comprehensive safety training with field employees corresponding to work tasks (e.g., fall protection, scaffolding, etc.) to promote safety awareness with the project team.
  • Assist and support both project teams and Claims/Risk Management department in investigation of all incidents (WC/GL/Near Miss/etc.), documenting appropriately. Assist in implementation of corrective actions as it relates to the incident.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records as required. Carry out assigned tasks and project to completion with minimal supervision. Be able to work independently and with multiple tasks. Maintain the confidential nature of safety issues.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels and with external entities (i.e., OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.). Assists with regulatory (state/federal) inspections and documenting appropriately.
  • Support corporate safety initiatives (e.g. Safety Week, Procore Process/Leading Indicators, Safety Quality Planning Method, Constructability Safety Reviews, OSHA 10-Hour Training, etc.).
  • Represent Hoar Construction locally with various construction organizations (e.g. ABC, AGC, etc.) by participating in safety committees, best practices, etc.
