About The Position

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Marshall University, is seeking an Assistant Research Professor. This role involves leading and conducting advanced research focused on bacterial virulence mechanisms and the development of new therapeutic strategies. The position requires expertise in experimental design, execution, analysis, and the use of in vivo models, particularly murine systems. The successful candidate will also be involved in molecular biology techniques, data dissemination through publications and presentations, and lab leadership, including mentoring junior staff and students.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Demonstrated experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments related to bacterial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, and microbial genetics.
• Proficiency in utilizing and managing animal models, specifically murine systems.
• Experience with advanced molecular biology techniques such as gene expression analysis, RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq), and proteomics.
• Basic bioinformatics skills.
• Proven ability to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience presenting research findings at scientific conferences.
• Experience in supervising, training, and mentoring junior lab members, technicians, and students.

Responsibilities

• Design, conduct, and analyze complex experiments related to bacterial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, and microbial genetics.
• Utilize and manage animal models, including murine (mouse) systems, to investigate bacterial infections and test novel therapeutics.
• Perform advanced molecular techniques, including gene expression analysis, RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq), proteomics, and basic bioinformatics.
• Prepare high-quality manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences.
• Assist in the daily operations of the lab.
• Supervise, train, and mentor junior lab members, technicians, and students.
