About The Position

Reporting to the Chair for Biomedical Sciences, this role will provide curricular development and support, specifically in the Medical Education Track. The position involves developing and maintaining educational materials, organizing class session creation, and authoring or assembling clinical cases and board-style questions. The role also requires demonstrating professionalism, fostering a positive culture, assisting with accreditation and assessment, serving in academic leadership roles, and acting as a student advisor and mentor. Additionally, responsibilities include participating in interviewing prospective students and assisting with student testing and remediation.

Requirements

• A terminal degree (PhD, DSc, DO, MD, etc.) in a basic science field from an accredited institution of higher education with appropriate experience for an Assistant Professor (or higher)
• A track record of academic experience in biomedical sciences education
• Maintain appropriate licensure for practice in health care and be in good standing with all regulatory and licensing boards and agencies, as applicable
• Be detailed oriented and have excellent interpersonal skills
• Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and the desire and ability to learn software for course management and third-party learning resources.

• Additional training or experience in educational theory and/or evaluation
• A record of success as a medical educator
• Experience using innovative teaching methods, which might include team-based learning, “flipped classroom”, problem-based learning, distance learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems and curriculum delivery systems
• Experience with curricular and instructional design
• Record of scholarly activity

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain educational materials
• Organize and streamline the process of creating a class session
• Author or assemble clinical cases and board-style questions
• Demonstrate professionalism as defined by the KansasCOM declaration of faculty professionalism and responsibility
• Foster a positive culture amongst students, faculty and KHSU-KansasCOM staff
• Assist in accreditation, assessment, and quality improvement to include document creation, data collection and management, and education of faculty as assigned
• Serve as requested in academic leadership roles
• Serve as a student advisor and mentor, as assigned
• Participate in interviewing prospective students
• Assist in student testing, re-testing, and remediation as necessary
• Perform other related duties, as assigned
