Assistant Project Manager, Mechanical & Plumbing

VIATechnikChicago, IL
$60,000 - $80,000Remote

About The Position

As an Assistant Project Manager for mechanical and plumbing scopes, you will support the delivery of BIM and VDC services for VIATechnik's trade contractor clients. You'll coordinate between VIATechnik's internal technical teams and client stakeholders, manage several workstreams at once, and translate technical outputs into clear next steps for the people building the work in the field. Your day-to-day work keeps handoffs on schedule, surfaces issues early, and manages risk before it affects a project timeline. This role fits someone with a strong grasp of construction software and technical workflows who wants to stay close to delivery without doing hands on production modeling. VIATechnik is on a mission to lead the built environment in creating a better future, today. We are one team of over 500 digital experts around the globe. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed architects, engineers, tradespersons, researchers, and business leaders. Together, we empower clients through high-quality, high-velocity experiences that consistently improve outcomes across the design, construction, and operations of buildings and infrastructure. Our clients include Amazon, Mars Wrigley, and National Geographic, the firms shaping the world's most ambitious projects.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years experience.
  • An associate or above in a related field.
  • You have hands on experience with construction software and BIM or VDC workflows and can translate technical detail into next steps that non-technical stakeholders can act on.
  • You can manage several active projects at once without losing track of deadlines, dependencies, or who owns what.
  • You are comfortable being the connective point between technical teams and clients, and you take ownership when something needs to move faster.
  • You work well in a structured environment that is still evolving, and you look for ways to improve the process rather than waiting to be told.
  • US work authorization is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a 30 to 60 day audit of your active projects to assess delivery status, scope clarity, modeling workflows, and risk areas, then work with technical leads to correct what needs fixing.
  • Serve as a steady point of contact for trade contractor clients, keeping them updated on deliverable status, upcoming reviews, and open decisions.
  • Track milestones, dependencies, and review cycles across your projects, flagging timeline risk early and adjusting resourcing with technical leads as needed.
  • Run structured syncs with internal technical team leads to align on client feedback, modeling questions, and production challenges before they become bottlenecks.
  • Watch for scope creep and change requests, document them clearly, and work with Client Success or Account Management to keep pricing and delivery aligned.
  • Lead debriefs after major milestones or project closeout and turn what you learn into updates to templates, checklists, or delivery methods the team can reuse.
  • Look for ways AI and automation tools can improve delivery accuracy and reduce manual coordination, and pilot at least one idea within your first six months.
