About The Position
The Christman Company is seeking Assistant Project Engineer Interns for their Summer Internship Program in the Grand Rapids, Michigan region. This program offers undergraduate students the chance to learn about different building types and delivery methods while gaining on-the-job experience in various markets. The role provides administrative and technical support to the project team.
Requirements
- Active, full-time Sophomore-Senior level student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA

- Previous work or internship experience in the commercial construction industry.
- Shows participation and/or leadership roles in student organizations or extracurricular club activities.
Responsibilities
- Provides administrative and technical support to the project team.
- Assists with Request for Information (RFI), document control and management, creation and tracking of submittments, cost tracking, and schedule updates.
- Assist in summarizing important discussions, questions, and decisions raised during regular project team meetings, owner meetings, and weekly subcontractor meetings.
- Reads through and understands specification books to ensure compliance and project quality.
- Assist the Project Manager with identifying necessary inspections, create project-specific inspection log according to Christman standards, establish relationships with inspectors, schedule inspections, and ensure readiness for inspection.
- Assist in updating contract drawings to reflect all approved changes and ensure trade contractor document updates.
- Assist Superintendents with daily reports and manage all progress and quality photos.
- Model safety awareness and planning at all times while observing safety practices and report any concerns to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
- Supports the logistics process for all safety initiatives listed in the site-specific safety plan.
