About The Position

The Christman Company is seeking Assistant Project Engineer Interns for their Summer Internship Program in the Sterling, Virginia region. This program offers undergraduate students the chance to learn about different building types and delivery methods while gaining on-the-job experience in various markets. The role provides administrative and technical support to the project team, assisting with key project management tasks.

Requirements

Active, full-time Sophomore-Senior level student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
Minimum 3.0 GPA

Nice To Haves

Previous work or internship experience in the commercial construction industry.
Participation and/or leadership roles in student organizations or extracurricular club activities.

Responsibilities

Provides administrative and technical support to the project team.
Assists with Request for Information (RFI), document control and management, creation and tracking of submittals, cost tracking, and schedule updates.
Assists in summarizing important discussions, questions, and decisions raised during regular project team meetings, owner meetings, and weekly subcontractor meetings.
Reads through and understands specification books to ensure compliance and project quality.
Assists the Project Manager with identifying necessary inspections, creating project-specific inspection logs according to Christman standards, establishing relationships with inspectors, scheduling inspections, and ensuring readiness for inspection.
Assists in updating contract drawings to reflect all approved changes and ensures trade contractor document updates.
Assists Superintendents with daily reports and manages all progress and quality photos.
Models safety awareness and planning at all times while observing safety practices and reporting any concerns to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
Supports the logistics process for all safety initiatives listed in the site-specific safety plan.
