About The Position

The Department of Speech, Language, and Communication Sciences (SLCS) at Xavier University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2027. We seek a collaborative teacher-scholar who is excited to help build a new academic program from the ground up and whose teaching and clinical expertise will strengthen the Department's undergraduate curriculum in speech-language pathology. The teaching expectation is 18 credit hours annually for this tenure-track faculty position when a faculty member meets the College’s active scholarship standards. SLCS currently offers an undergraduate program in speech, language, and communication sciences, with a graduate program in speech-language pathology planned to launch in 2031. Consistent with Xavier University's mission, the Department seeks to equip students with the competence and conscience necessary to serve individuals with communication disorders and the professionals and communities who support them.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a closely related field. ABD candidates may be considered provided that all requirements for the doctorate will be completed by August 1, 2027.
• A Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), or eligibility to obtain CCC-SLP prior to appointment.
• Experience supervising students in a clinical, practicum, or clinical fellowship (CFY) setting (any one of these is sufficient).
• Evidence of effective college- or university-level teaching or demonstrated potential for teaching excellence.
• Evidence of an active or emerging research agenda and potential for continued scholarly productivity.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• A commitment to student advising and mentoring.
• A commitment to the missions of the Department of Speech, Language, and Communication Sciences and Xavier University, including Xavier's Jesuit Catholic educational tradition.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in speech-language pathology, with the opportunity to help shape graduate-level curriculum as the Department's graduate program develops toward its planned 2031 launch
• Supervise students in clinical and practicum experiences as part of SLCS's experiential learning sequence
• Maintain an active research agenda
• Advise and mentor undergraduate (and, in time, graduate) students
• Participate in departmental, university, professional, and community service
