About The Position

Sacred Heart University (SHU) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor for its ABET-accredited B.S. in Computer Science program within the School of Computing & Engineering (SCE). The successful candidate will be a dynamic and innovative educator-scholar dedicated to excellence in undergraduate teaching, student mentoring, and scholarly activity. This role emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning and active student engagement, while also contributing to curriculum development and program improvement in line with ABET accreditation standards. The position is anticipated to begin in August 2027.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or a closely related discipline, completed by the start date of the appointment.
  • Expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning and language models preferred.
  • Commitment to a highly interactive, student-centered learning environment.
  • Openness to innovative and hands-on pedagogical approaches.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and professional growth.
  • Experience developing or maintaining industry collaborations.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and teaching problem-based, hands-on undergraduate courses in computer science, with an emphasis on machine learning, generative AI, natural language processing, and computer vision.
  • Conducting scholarly computer science and artificial intelligence research appropriate for a teaching-focused institution.
  • Supervising graduate and undergraduate student research as well as mentoring senior capstone design projects.
  • Collaborating with industry partners and the SHU community on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Supporting continuous program improvement and ABET accreditation activities.
