Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Computer Science - Bioinformatics
About The Position
The Department of Computer Science at San José State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in bioinformatics or a related field, starting August 2027. This role involves teaching courses in Computer Science, Data Science, and the MS in Bioinformatics program. Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population, as evidenced by cross-cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
Nice To Haves
- Teaching, research, and/or industry experience in bioinformatics or a related field, such as computational biology, genomics, biomedical data science, or machine learning and AI applied to biological data.
Responsibilities
- Teach in-person, supervise, and advise students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Establish a successful research program related to their field of interest.
- Participate in shared governance, including department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
- Comply with California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act requirements.
- Complete Clery Act training and report Clery incidents if designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
- Complete assigned and required CSU employee training (e.g., Data Security, FERPA, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Title IX, Health and Safety).
- Comply with safety measures to decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness as required by the President.
