About The Position
The Department of Psychology at the University of Akron invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in August 2027. The department seeks teacher-scholars who will contribute to the university's excellence through teaching, scholarship, service, and collaboration. As an urban-research university, there is particular interest in scholars whose work addresses pressing urban needs such as health, career outlooks, and employment, and who can lead collaborations to address well-being, public safety, and civic engagement. Within I/O Psychology, the focus is on teaching and researching content areas like recruitment, selection, performance management, team processes, leadership, culture, well-being, organizational effectiveness, and employee success. The successful candidate must demonstrate research activity and publications in high-quality, peer-reviewed I/O Psychology and Management journals, and be able to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, as well as advise and mentor graduate students in their research. Applicants must have completed the requirements for a Ph.D. in I/O Psychology or a related field by the position start date of August 23, 2027. The Psychology Department's mission is to prepare students for diverse careers in Health, Education, Business, and Research by equipping them with scientific and professional knowledge within a socio-cultural, historical, and systemic context, enabling them to understand, engage, and improve individuals, groups, organizations, and society through community-engaged teaching, research, and service.
Requirements
- Completed requirements for a Ph.D. in I/O Psychology or related field by August 23, 2027.
- Evidence of research activity/publication in high quality, peer-reviewed I/O Psychology and Management journals.
- Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses.
- Ability to effectively advise/mentor graduate students in their research activities.
- Scholars whose work touches on the pressing needs of cities and urban communities such as health, career outlooks, and employment.
- Scholars that will lead collaborations among faculty, students and community partners that address questions of well-being, public safety, and civic engagement.
- Within the broad focus of I/O Psychology, a scholar focused on teaching and researching content that may include recruitment, selection, performance management, team processes, leadership, culture, well-being, organizational effectiveness, and employee success.
