About The Position

Fordham University's Department of Theatre and Visual Arts is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Theatre Design for its Lincoln Center campus, starting Fall 2027. The Theatre Program offers concentrations in Design and Production, Performance, Directing, and Playwriting. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative artist-educator with expertise in theatre design, capable of teaching across multiple design areas. Experience in lighting and sound design is highly desirable. The program values interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to fostering innovative artists. The role involves teaching undergraduate theatre design courses, mentoring student designers, curriculum development, and serving as a resident designer for at least one mainstage production annually, while also supervising student productions. Requirements

• Terminal degree (MFA or PhD, as appropriate to the discipline) by the time of appointment.
• 3-5 years of college-level teaching experience.
• 3-5 years of professional experience.
• Demonstrated successful teaching and mentorship experience in academic or studio environments.
• Ability to contribute to curriculum development for theatre studies in a liberal arts environment.
• Demonstrated collaboration and leadership skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Effective management skills.
• Demonstrated innovation and follow-through.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in theatre design.
• Mentor student designers.
• Contribute to developing an innovative, inclusive, and forward-looking curriculum.
• Serve as a resident designer for the department, designing at least one mainstage production each academic year.
• Supervise student-designed Main Stage and Studio productions.
• Maintain an active professional practice.
• Engage in scholarly and/or creative work appropriate for a tenure-track appointment.
• Contribute to advancing principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Department and the School of Arts & Sciences.
• Contribute to the interdisciplinary conversation on theatre and global citizenship.
