About The Position

The University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track. The department is an academically intensive unit focused on teaching, research, and academic service, aiming to improve patient care. It offers academic degrees at the bachelor's (BMLSc) and graduate (MSc, PhD) levels, plays a significant role in the MD undergraduate program, and has an accredited residency-training program. Faculty members engage in basic, translational, and clinical research, with a strong reputation for excellence. The successful candidate will report to the Head of the Department and is expected to build a research program within the Molecular and Advanced Pathology Core, focusing on the analysis of high-dimensional datasets from gynecologic cancers, including spatial transcriptomics, in collaboration with the Gynecologic Cancer Initiative. A concurrent position as a clinical gynecologic pathologist is required. The role involves teaching, mentorship, and service to the University and the broader academic community, contributing to strategic initiatives and fostering an inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
  • Fully qualified and licenced pathologist with subspecialty training in gynecologic pathology.
  • Concurrent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia as a clinical gynecological pathologist, or eligibility to obtain such licensure at the time of appointment.
  • Proven research potential.
  • Strong computational biology skills.
  • Demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and scholarly activity.
  • Subspecialty expertise in gynecologic cancers.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.
  • Commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Nice To Haves

  • MD/PhD.
  • PhD in gynecologic cancer research and computational biology is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build a research program within the Molecular and Advanced Pathology Core, working with the Gynecologic Cancer Initiative.
  • Develop and lead the analysis of high dimensional datasets derived from clinically annotated gynecologic cancers including spatial transcriptomics.
  • Write successful grants and lead projects.
  • Participate in the teaching activities of the Department.
  • Provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners.
  • Provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.
  • Work collaboratively in diverse groups to bring forward strategic initiatives for the Department and the Faculty.
  • Contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity.
