Assistant Professor, Tenure Track - Criminal Justice
About The Position
The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date of August 2027. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field. ABD candidates will be considered if all degree requirements will be completed by August 1, 2027. The area of expertise is open, though expertise in investigative forensics or artificial intelligence in criminal justice is preferred. We seek a colleague who excels in research and instruction and can contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs. Applicants should demonstrate a strong record of, or potential for, high-quality scholarship and teaching, as well as potential to attract external funding. The teaching load is two courses per semester, and faculty are expected to engage in appropriate university, professional, and community service. The department offers opportunities for researcher-practitioner partnerships with criminal justice agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. The Department of Criminal Justice offers Bachelor of Science, Minors in Investigative Forensics and Artificial Intelligence in Criminal Justice, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees and is committed to student-centered teaching, rigorous research, and community engagement. Faculty maintain strong partnerships with criminal justice organizations and have a record of securing external support for research and applied projects. The department also includes the Southern Police Institute (SPI), a nationally and internationally recognized provider of advanced education and professional development for law enforcement practitioners, and the SPI Center for Training Research and Innovative Simulation which focuses on applied research and bringing realistic scenario-based trainings to justice professionals.
