About The Position

The Department of Sociology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sociology of Health, commencing in Fall 2027. Minimum qualifications include a PhD at the time of appointment. The appointment salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. For the current position in Sociology of Health, we are seeking a scholar with a strong research trajectory that contributes to the strengths of the department, the university, and Atlanta. We value cutting edge research that adopts a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches, and that pertains to a range of substantive foci. The ideal candidate’s work will link to other substantive areas in the department (culture, social inequality, and social psychology). Candidates should be prepared to teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, especially in the area of Sociology of Health, and to strive for excellence in teaching. The Department supports a concentration in the field of health with core faculty and interdisciplinary collaborations across the university, including with the School of Medicine’s MD-PhD program, Rollins School of Public Health’s PhD-MPH program, and Emory College of Arts and Sciences’ undergraduate major in human health, and in Atlanta with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
