Electrical and Computer Engineering Assistant Professor - Robotics & AI
About The Position
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Santa Clara University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in the fall of 2027. The focus is on robotics, with specific expertise sought in robot perception and sensor fusion, motion and task planning, resource-aware robotics, the design of safety-critical robotic systems, manufacturing, and the principled use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in these fields. While expertise in every area is not required, candidates must demonstrate substantial expertise beyond a single specialization. This role is a strategic growth area for ECE and aims to complement existing faculty expertise and align with programs like the M.S. in Robotics and Automation and the M.S. in AI. The position will also strengthen ties with the Cunningham Shoquist Center for Applied AI and Human Potential. Candidates are expected to present a clear plan for engaging with a diverse academic environment through teaching, research, service, and mentorship, embodying Santa Clara University's values of inclusive excellence. The new assistant professor will have the opportunity to contribute to research laboratory establishment and programmatic development within the School of Engineering's state-of-the-art Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering or a closely related field by appointment start date.
- A demonstrated research track record or strong research potential in robotics, including high-quality journal publications.
- A commitment and demonstrated potential to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to engage in curriculum development.
- A commitment to contribute to a diverse and inclusive academic culture.

Responsibilities

- Service to the Department, School, University, and the profession.
